Charles Bukowski schrieb einmal über die nicht immer ebenbürtig zu wertende Art des Todes: „to die on the kitchen floor at 7 o’clock in the morning while other people are frying eggs is not so rough unless it happens to you.” (aus “The Twins”, “The Galley Sail Review vol. 1 no. 4”, S. 16, 1959). Er wusste dabei selbst über die Härte des Lebens und seine Erfahrungen Bescheid. Das Leben und der Tod, die Zeit dazwischen und für einige auch die Geburt selbst können beschämend sein, da eine beschämende Weise zu leben und so zu sterben etwas „Unheldenhaftes“ hat. Aus einer Kultur von Jägern und Sammlern stammend haben wir uns über Sesshaftigkeit und Nutzbarmachung von Pflanzen, Tieren und auch uns gegenseitig zu der einflussreichsten Spezies erhoben, in der die Darstellung des gesammelten Guts zentraler wurde als das Gut selbst. Diese konsequente Entwicklung beherbergt eine inkonsequente Fortschrittlichkeit, die sich der ältesten traditionellen Wirtschaftsform wieder annähert, vor allem in Form von Zerstörung und Ausgrenzung. Eine inhumane Selektion, die aber allzu menschlich ist.

Charles Bukowski once wrote about a kind of death which is not always valued equally, „to die on the kitchen floor at 7 o’clock in the morning while other people are frying eggs is not so rough unless it happens to you.“ (The Twins”, “The Galley Sail Review vol. 1 no. 4”, S. 16, 1959). He himself understood about the hardship of life and its empiric laws. Life and Death, the times in between, and for some of us even Birth itself can be embarrassing as a humiliating way of living and dying is somewhat „anti-heroic“. Originating from a culture of huntsmen and collectors we have lifted (elevated) via sedentariness and utilization of plants, animals and each other to the most influential species in which the presentation of the gathered property has become more essential than the property itself. That consequent development houses an inconsistent progressiveness which above all approaches the ancient economic system in form of destruction and social exclusion. An inhuman selection which is all too human.
